Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we all have had to rethink how we live, work and play. The Recreation and Springbrook teams have been working creatively to safely offer new types of programs both in-person and at-home. This page lists all the Recreation and Springbrook programming for 2021.

Summer ROCKS 2021

  • Summer ROCKSWe are once again hosting our popular Summer ROCKS program! Summer ROCKS (Recreation Opportunities for Creative Kids in the Summer) is all about exploring, adventure, learning, creativity, friendships, and most of all FUN! The program will be held at the Fridley Middle School and Commons Park. Check out our Summer ROCKS page for more information!

Free Events

  • Finding Your Fun in Fridley Pop-up Events: Get out and enjoy the winter weather in Fridley Parks! Join our staff for a variety of activities including: ice skating, snowshoeing, hiking, crafts and more. Receive a FREE thermal mug at your first event. Check out our Facebook and Instagram to keep updated in where we'll be visiting throughout the season and to share your adventures.
  • Ice Skate Drive: Lack of equipment, limits wintertime fun.  We are collecting used and unwanted ice skates to be offered for use at the Commons Park warming house free of charge. Skates can be dropped off at Fridley City Hall and Commons Warming House during open hours.

Preschool Activities – Ages 3-5 

Tot Time Open Gym: Feeling cooped up inside?  Bring your tots out to the Hayes Elementary School gym for an hour of activity.  This is a perfect time for perfect time for parents and children to interact and get the wiggles out!

Sports: Fridley Recreation sports programs are designed for kids who want to learn basic skills while being active and having fun!  Instructors focus on teaching age appropriate fundamentals while encouraging teamwork.


Evening Youth Activities – Gr. K-7

Youth Instructional Classes: The following classes are designed for two different age groups.  Ranging from grade K-8

  • Mixed Media Art: Children will discover the world of art while exploring both two and three dimensional media.  
  • Drawing and Creative Writing: Let's turn your doodles into an original short story! Join us to lean writing techniques and practice drawing human figures to create superhero's and cartoons that go on adventures. 
  • ArcheryKids will be excited to learn this lifetime activity while engaged in a natural environment.  This program takes place at the Springbrook Nature Center with instruction from a Springbrook Naturalist and Recreation Instructor.

Adult Activities

Fitness:

  • Zumba: Enjoy the party as we shake to the rhythms of Latin-infused music/dance with our instructor Lenka Seferovic!
  • Aqua Zumba: Aqua ZUMBA gives new meaning to to the idea of a refreshing workout. Integrating the ZUMBA philosophy with traditional aquatic fitness, every class is a party!
  • Tae Kwon Do: This Korean Martial Art class will teach you to use your hands and feet without weapons.  Focusing on technique in the virtual sessions on Wednesday and fine tuning these skills during the in person classes on Saturdays.
  • POUNDTransforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements.
  • Senior Walking Club:  Looking for a way to enjoy the great outdoors as well as meet new people?  This new club may be the answer.  The group will meet at a variety of pre-determined parks and trails throughout Fridley and neighboring cities.  

Athletics/Sports:

  • Adult Softball Leagues: The City of Fridley offers USSSA sanctioned softball leagues at Community Park. All leagues play double-headers and run 12 weeks, including play-offs. Entry fees include softballs, umpires and play-off champion awards. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed and protocols will be in place. Registration deadline is due two weeks in advance, with full payment due upon registration. Questions? Contact Jen.Graham@FridleyMN.Gov 
  • Bag Toss: Grab a partner and play in our indoor Bag Toss league. Teams are made up of 2 players with any gender combination. The league will be 7-weeks in length with 5 regular season games and a 2-week playoff period. Games will be won on a best of three set basis. All teams will make the playoffs, and prizes will be awarded to the top teams. Music can be played upon request!
  • Open PickleballLooking to play Pickleball this winter? We will be offering indoor court rental at the Hayes Gym from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays beginning on January 23. Fee is $15 per hour; balls and paddles are available.  Reservations must be made at least one week in advance. Please contact us at 763-572-3570 to reserve a time. 
  • Pickleball League: Come join our self-officiated doubles pickleball league!  This fast-paced sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong and is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the nation.  This league welcomes players of all skill levels.
  • Pickleball Clinic: We offer two different types of introduction level clinics.  Step I clinics are designed to introduce and improve players' skills while focusing on the fundamentals of the game.  Step II classes are made to take your skills to the next level and building upon what was learned in the first clinic.  Clinic price is $5.  This popular program fills up fast, so register before it's too late!  
  • Senior Golf League: This league is designed for adults ages 55+ and is played at Brightwood Hills in New Brighton.  League play is structured to accommodate all abilities from beginner to experienced.  Payers will be paired up, please notify us if there is a certain person you would like to play with.  There will be an origination meeting for participants to attend in early April at the Fridley Civic Campus.  An additional fee of $25 can be collected at the time of registration for those that wish to attend the Tournament and Award Banquet. 
  • Adult Painting in the Park: People of all abilities can participate in this step-by-step painting class.  Just come out to the park ready to kick back and enjoy yourself.

Arts & Crafts

  • Painting in the Park: Painting is all about expression and exploring your creativity. This class is structured to teach the basics while having fun. Join us to try out a variety of painting techniques while learning about different styles of art from still life to abstract.

ROX: Recreation in a Box
We have you covered for fun at home with some exciting themed activities that will keep everyone entertained. Simply sign up and you will receive a kit full of goodies to get the party started.

  • Spring Fling: Get excited for the new beginnings that April showers bring!
  • Happy Mother's Day: Celebrate the special person in your life by making memories together.
  • May Day Basket Delivery: The Rec N' Roll truck is rolling down your street with May Day delivery.  Fridley Recreation staff will be delivering this fun basket to your doorstep.  Basket contents intended for one child, age 3 and up.  Delivery will be between 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
