Project Updates

Project Update 4 - September 23rd, 2022

The City’s Contractor, S.M. Hentges & Sons, Inc., is anticipated to resume construction activities the week of September 26th. Generally, crews will focus on the completion of removals and utility work along Hartman Circle before transitioning to project-wide street improvements. Please see the official emailed notice for more information.

Project Update 3 - September 9, 2022

Due to scheduling conflicts, the Contractor was unable to complete pavement reclamation and curb removals along Hartman Circle this week. The City and Contractor are actively working to reschedule these items. An additional notice will be provided to project residents when these items are rescheduled. Please see the official emailed notice for more information.

Project Update 2 - September 2, 2022

The Contractor is anticipated to begin construction the week of September 5th, and will generally focus on removals and watermain replacement along Hartman Circle before transitioning to project wide street improvements. As construction transitions to the remaining project streets, future weekly project updates will reflect the work occurring on all project streets.

More information can be found in the official emailed notice.

Project Update 1 - June 23, 2022

The City of Fridley awarded the Street Rehabilitation Project No. ST2022-01 to S.M. Hentges & Sons, Inc. of Jordan, MN. The bids came in a little higher than staff were projecting during the preliminary design and after calculating the special assessments with contractor’s costs the special assessments are estimated to be 10% higher than the amount projected previously. This is due to the increase in oil prices that occurred between October of 2021 and now. Staff is currently reviewing the project to see where costs might be reduced.

The street contractor has provided a preliminary construction schedule starting in August. A more formal project schedule will be shared in July. Once the project starts residents can anticipate a weekly update during construction.

Please see official mailed public notice for more information, including information regarding work from Centerpoint Energy and contact information. Please note this will be the only mailed public notice. All other updates will be emailed and posted on this webpage.

2022 Street Rehabilitation Project Map - UPDATED DEC 2021 (1)

This project involves the rehabilitation of various asphalt street segments and minor repairs to utilities constructed in the 1990s and subject to recent stripping of seal coated asphalt pavements. The project is developed to address the accelerated deterioration of these street segments in various locations of the City and is a continuation of this initiative begun in 2021.

This project is consistent with the street pavement preservation program. Sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water system surveys will need to be completed prior to plan development to determine the extent of repairs needed on the City's utility systems. These costs are approximated in the below estimates. This project will be coordinated with CenterPoint Energy and other private utilities in regard to replacement of their aging systems. This project is consistent with the update to the City's Pavement Management Plan in November 2020.
